Saudi Arabia is a popular choice for people from across the world to work due to its diverse and lucrative job market and plenty of opportunities without any income tax (as of now). While it is quite lucrative and beneficial to work in Saudi Arabia and people can earn and save good amount of money by getting job in Saudi Arabia, it is also important to note that Saudi Arabia is very strict in terms of its laws and any violators face severe consequences. One of the laws as per labor law of Saudi Arabia restricts any worker to work for the sponsor/kafeel by strictly following the work contract and he or she is not allowed to run-away or work independently for any other sponsor without following due process. Any worker who runs away or escapes from his sponsor (kafeel) without informing and remains absent from work may get a huroob status which makes him an illegal resident and subject to consequences and penalties.
In this post we will explain how to check huroob status in Saudi Arabia and know if a person is legally on work or his iqama is marked as huroob by his employer.
What is Huroob Status in Saudi Arabia?
In literal meaning, huroob (هروب) is an Arabic work which is translated to escape or run-away. A person is in Huroob status if he or she is absent from the work without informing kafeel (sponsor) and kafeel/sponsor can file a case against them and they get marked as huroob.
If you are in Huroob status in Saudi Arabia, you are working & living as an illegal expat and you are violating the laws and you are subjected to severe penalties as per Saudi Law.
How to Check Huroob Status Online?
If a person is absent from his legal work and is working illegally for another employer or if a person hasn’t informed his sponsor and is not performing his job duties, he might be in Huroob status already as employer has right to report any such labour law violations and ask for legal penalties to the employees who violate labour law. In order to check huroob status, you can use Ministry of Labor Site (https://mol.gov.sa/Services/Inquiry/NonSaudiEmpInquiry.aspx).
On Ministry of Labour site, enter your Iqama (or passport or border number) and then choose your nationality and enter captcha code and submit.
You should be able to see if you are on-work or not. If you don’t have Huroob, you will see علي رأس العمل and if you have Huroob status against your iqama, you will see your status as متغيب عن العمل which indicates that you are absent from work in Huroob Status.
