How to Challenge or Dispute a Traffic Violation Fine in Saudi Arabia

Saudi Arabia has a strong network of traffic cameras installed in all major roads throughout the kingdom to catch the traffic violators and impose fines on them. This Saher system at one end has greatly helped the country in regulating the traffic and enforcing traffic rules resulting in reduction of casualties and road accidents. For any traffic violation, if it gets caught in the camera, vehicle gets a flash on its number plate and SMS message with traffic fine details reaches the registered mobile number. While there are tons of positive aspects of this Saher system and camera/radar based traffic monitoring, people still complain at times that they received a wrong traffic violation penalty for a mistake they never committed. To deal with such cases, Saudi government has introduced a new e-Service through MOI Absher portal for challenging any traffic violation and open a dispute.

In this post, I will explain details about this e-service to challenge/dispute a fine imposed by Saher system.

How to Challenge/Dispute a Saher Traffic Violation Fine in Saudi Arabia

The first pre-requisite to register a dispute against any traffic violation is to have an active MOI Absher account. Once you are logged into your Absher account, you can register a dispute against a traffic violation by going to eServices–>Traffic–>Dispute Traffic Violations.

Please note that you can only challenge/dispute a traffic violation which was imposed on you through Saher system (camera based monitoring). Below are the conditions that you should keep in mind regarding traffic violation dispute.

Conditions for Registering Traffic Violation Dispute

  1. Dispute can be done within 30 days from date of violation. Any violations older than 1 month can’t be challenged and must be paid in time to avoid multiplication of fine amount. Refer to another post on this blog explaining steps on how to check and pay traffic violation fines in Saudi Arabia.

  1. As stated above, you can challenge only Saher based violations. If you have been caught red-handed by traffic police for a violation and a fine has been imposed on you, this eservice can’t be used to challenge that.

  1. Paid violation cannot be disputed via this service, to dispute paid violation you can visit main branches of general department of traffic (GDT).

It is also important to mention here that dispute reason chosen while disputing a registered Saher violation should be relevant to the dispute.
