For selling or buying a used car; you will have to go through the process of transfer of ownership of the car so that new owner of the car is eligible to legally drive the car. The process for transfer of ownership of any vehicle in Saudi Arabia is straight forward and not much of a hassle.
In this post, we will explain step by step process for Transfer of Car Ownership in Saudi Arabia.
Step 1: Get ready all required documents
For car ownership transfer in Saudi Arabia, below is the list of documents required:
1. Car Fahas (MVPI) Pass report
2. Istimara (ownership card of the seller)
3. Valid Iqama of both buyer and seller
4. Valid driving license of the buyer
5. Insurance by the buyer
Step 2: Visit Muroor Office
Once buyer and seller have agreed on all terms and also, all documents mentioned in the above step are ready; visit the Muroor office where required process of transfer of ownership will take place. The officer there will verify all the documents and will go through the necessary formalities. Buyer will have to pay the transfer of ownership fees as well as buy a new insurance plan for the car.
The transfer fees is supposed to be around 400 SAR while insurance cost will depend on the selection of the plan and the insurance company. Roughly; a third party insurance should cost between 100 to 1500 SAR.
The whole process in the Muroor office shouldn’t take much time. Once done; separate SMS will be received by both seller and buyer from MOI regarding completion of the transfer of ownership. The officer will provide a stamped document to the new owner confirming the car registration on his name.
Step 3: Get Istimara
After completion of ownership transfer process and collecting the stamped registration document, new owner needs to get a Istimara (car registration card) as Istimara is mandatory for driving the car in Saudi Arabia. New owner can visit any Muroor office in the city and get the Istimara printed for him by showing the registration document and original Iqama.
